Honor

This month, we will be learning about Honor. What is honor? The word honor has multiple meanings. Some of them are:

Respect
A feeling of pride or pleasure from being shown respect, or the act of showing respect to someone or something. For example, “It is an honor to meet you.”

Title
A title of respect for a high-ranking official, such as a judge or mayor. For example, “if your Honor please”.

Recognition
A public celebration or recognition of someone or something. For example, “the newlyweds were honored with a dinner given by the bride’s grandmother”.

Privilege
The privilege of being associated with or receiving a favor from a respected person, group, or organization. For example, “I had the honor of serving on the Pulitzer Prize jury.”

Evidence
A symbol or evidence of great respect, such as a title or medal.

Quality
A quality of a person that manifests itself as a code of conduct, including elements such as honesty, compassion, chivalry, and valor.

Do you show honor? What does honor mean to you?

“Honor is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” — Unknown

Geronimo

TODAY IN HISTORY
GERONIMO SURRENDERS

On September 4, 1886, Apache leader Geronimo surrenders to U.S. government troops. For 30 years, the Native American warrior had battled to protect his tribe’s homeland; however, by 1886 the Apaches were exhausted and outnumbered. General Nelson Miles accepted Geronimo’s surrender, making him the last Native American warrior to formally give in to U.S. forces and signaling the end of the Indian Wars in the Southwest.

NATIONAL WILDLIFE DAY - September 4, 2024 - Angie Gensler

National Wildlife Day

America marks National Wildlife Day on September 4. It’s an opportunity for everyone to step back, take a deep breath and think about all that surrounds us. It inspiring to consider preservation and conservation efforts that work to improve the natural world. There remains so much to learn. As Henry David Thoreau once wrote, “In wildness is the preservation of the world.”
